BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Chris Waldsmith, a partner in the Birmingham accounting firm of Denbo, Waldsmith & Co., has been named Assistant Commissioner for Finance at the Southeastern Conference, Commissioner Mike Slive announced Thursday.
Waldsmith will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the SEC business office.
“Chris is a talented professional,” Slive said. “We are pleased to have him join the SEC family as our new Assistant Commissioner for Finance, and know he will be a great asset in that role.”
Waldsmith, a Certified Public Accountant who has worked in public practice since 1992, brings more than two decades of financial expertise to his new role at the SEC.
He joined Denbo, Waldsmith in 1992 and has been a partner in the firm since 2005. There, he was responsible for audit and tax services focusing on businesses in the Birmingham area.
“I am delighted to be joining the SEC team,” Waldsmith said. “I look forward to contributing to the work of the SEC office.”
Waldsmith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Alabama in 1990.
