    SEC Announces Women's Tennis Community Service Team

    The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams in all 21 sports.  The Community Service Team looks to highlight athletes from the SEC who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.  Brief biographical sketches of the members of the 2013 Women’s Tennis Community Service Team follows:

    Mary Anne Macfarlane, Alabama
    Junior • Ogden, Utah

    Participated in The University of Alabama athletic department’s Halloween Extravaganza … assisted with Project Angel Tree … helped out at the Crimson Tide’s Power of Pink athletic events, which help raise awareness for breast cancer … took part in Read Across America … assisted with USTA/ITA Campus Kids’ Days and helped with various tennis clinics.

    Habitat for Humanity... Sweat Hawgs Program (promoting physical fitness in local elementary schools)... Salute to Veterans... Feed our Starving Children... Books Hogs... Rocking with the Razorbacks... Lift Up America Feeding the Hunger Program... Book Hogs Program... SEC Together We CAN Canned Food Drive... Member of SAAC (Student Athletic Advisory Committee).

    2011 ITA Southeast Region Rookie of the Year... 2011 All-Southeastern Conference Second Team… 2011 SEC All-Freshman Team… 2011 SEC All-Tournament Team… SEC Freshman of the Week (Feb. 16, 2011)… 2011 ITA National Women’s Team Indoor All-Tournament Team (No. 6 Singles)… 2011 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll... 2011 ITA Scholar-Athlete status (minimum 3.5 GPA)... 2012 SEC Academic Honor Roll ... won the 2010 ITA Southeast Regional singles title… 2011 & 2012 Rheau Stakeley Sportsmanship Award (team award).

    Cats Cultivating Character… UK Athletics/UK Children’s Hospital “Breakfast with Santa” volunteer… Packed for God’s Pantry Program… Served lunch at the Hope Center… Distributed wish lists for children at Circle of Love… Cleaned Catholic Action Center… God’s Pantry Back Pack Program volunteer.

    Keri Frankenberger, LSU
    Senior • Gainesvile, Fla.

    Spearheaded the women’s tennis team’s obstacle course activity during the annual Halloween BOOZar, an event providing a safe trick-or-treating atmosphere for local children... She’s made multiple visits see the many patients of Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital with the women’s tennis team... Also participated in Thanksgiving with the Tigers, as she and the team adopted an underprivileged child for the holidays and provided gifts at a program while also serving a Thanksgiving-style meal to the family... Volunteered at an annual holiday event, Holiday on Campus, that benefits the US Marine Corps, Toys for Tots and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank... Volunteered for Girls on the Run, a program that teaches life skills to girls in the 3rd - 8th grade and encourages them to work on health and fitness... She also offered her time to help build a playground at Twin Oaks Elementary.

    An active member of the Columbia community and a team leader on the community service front... Helped coordinate team participation in many areas, such as the Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School read-a-thon... Donating tennis balls to the Central Missouri Humane Society... Visiting the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and organizing efforts to volunteer at The Food Bank.  

    Kata Szekely, Tennessee

    Participated in Habitat for humanity helping to build a house in Knoxville during the fall season... Adopted a child through Athletes in Action and gave them Christmas presents this past Christmas... Helped to come up with the idea for a face painting booth for Voloween, an event held at the indoor training center for the faculty and staff of the University of Tennessee celebrating Halloween with their children... Most recently, read to the children at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
