    Hussey Promoted To Associate Commissioner, SEC Network Relations

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Charlie Hussey has been promoted to the position of Associate Commissioner for SEC Network Relations, the Southeastern Conference announced today.  

    Hussey has been a full-time member of the SEC staff since 2000 and most recently held the position of Assistant Commissioner for Marketing and Licensing.  

    In his new capacity, Hussey will be responsible for all matters pertaining to the implementation and launch of the SEC Network in the fall of 2014 and will serve as a liaison with ESPN for television, digital and sponsorship issues.

    “The importance and enormity of the launch of the SEC Network requires the singular attention of a senior level member of our staff,” said Commissioner Mike Slive.  “Charlie’s experience in working on the conference’s television packages in recent years as well as the SEC Digital Network makes him the ideal person to fill this role.”

    In May, the SEC and ESPN announced the launch of a new television network and digital platform that will show SEC sports 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including more than 1,000 events in the first year of operation.  It was recently announced that the network will officially launch on August 21, 2014.

    “The SEC and ESPN have a great relationship, due in large part to the people of the SEC,” said Justin Connolly, Senior Vice President of College Networks for ESPN.  “Charlie Hussey’s ability to represent the conference and its vision for creating a conference network will be critical to our success. Charlie is sharp, forward-thinking, and a proven problem solver. I am thrilled to have him as the liaison dedicated to the success of the SEC Network.”

    In his current position as assistant commissioner, in addition to working with the conference TV packages and sponsorship program, Hussey has served as primary contact for the SEC Corporate Sponsorship Program and has developed and implemented marketing and branding initiatives for the league while overseeing all matters relating to the league’s licensing program.

    Included in SEC Network programming will be three football games each Saturday, more than 100 men's and more than 60 women's basketball games, 75 baseball games and selected events from the other 17 SEC sports. The network will also feature studio shows and coverage of special events such as signing day and football pro days.

    The digital network will show hundreds of additional events. Each SEC school will have the opportunity to produce and develop content for various platforms.
