    SEC Football Players Of The Week

    The Southeastern Conference on Monday announced its Football Players of the Week, recognizing performances from the 12th week of the 2013 season.

    OFFENSE: Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt
    • Matthews set a single-game high with 12 catches, good for 141 yards in Vanderbilt's 22-6 victory over Kentucky.
    • Matthews ranks first in the SEC with 83 receptions and second in the conference with 1,076 receiving yards. During the performance, Matthews became the first receiver in SEC history to post two seasons of 80+ receptions.
    • The SEC's all-time leader with 3,358 receiving yards, Matthews is just four catches shy of breaking the league record for career receptions.
    • The win gave Vanderbilt its sixth victory of the year, making the Commodore bowl eligible for the third consecutive year under James Franklin.
    DEFENSE: C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama
    • Senior captain who once again led the team with eight total tackles (six solo) and forced a fumble.
    • Moved up to No. 7 on the UA career tackles list with 290.
    • Defense limited MSU to 197 total yards (144 pass, 53 rush).
    • Alabama shut out an opponent in the first half for the 10th time in the last 14 games.
    • The Tide has allowed just five touchdowns in the last eight games and just 6.3 points per contest.
    • Alabama has held 8 of 10 opponents this season to 10 or fewer points.
    • UA leads nation in scoring defense (10.2 ppg) and 5th/1st SEC in total defense (272.8 ypg).

    SPECIAL TEAMS: Cody Mandell, P, Alabama
    • Punted four times in windy conditions for 220 yards and a 55.0 average, which was a career-best.
    • Booted punts of 63 (career-long) and 61 yards, one out of bounds at the 2 and other downed at the 3.
    • MSU returned just one of the four punts for a loss of 15 yards.
    • Three of four punts were over 50 yards.
    • Mississippi State’s average starting field position following Mandell’s punts was their 11.5-yard line.
    • Mandell is now averaging a school-record 47.3 yards per kick on 33 punts to rank 2nd in SEC.
    • Tied for the SEC lead in conference games only with an average of 48.6 yards per punt. Would be tied for second in NCAA if he had enough punts to qualify (3 shy).
    FRESHMAN: Elliott Fry, PK, South Carolina
    • The true freshman walk-on came up big for the Gamecocks in their 19-14 win over Florida on Saturday night.
    • Fry was successful on 4-of-5 field goal attempts and accounted for 13 of the Gamecocks' points.
    • He connected on field goal attempts of 25-, a career-high 45-, 22- and 43-yards.
    • The 22-yarder came midway through the fourth quarter and put the Gamecocks on top for the first time in the game, a lead they would not relinquish.
    OFFENSIVE LINE: Reese Dismukes, OL, Auburn

    • Led an Auburn offensive line that helped the Tigers rush for 323 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
    • Graded out at 93 percent with seven knockdowns.
    • Has helped Auburn lead the SEC in rushing with over 300 yards a game.
    • Leads the team in knockdowns this season.
    DEFENSIVE LINE: Robert Nkemdiche, DL, Ole Miss

    • Led an Ole Miss defense that held Troy to -13 rushing yards in a 51-21 win.
    • Finished with four tackles, including two TFLs, his first career sack and a QB pressure.
    • It marked the first time an opponent has failed to break even rushing against the Rebels since Mississippi State in 2008 (-64).
    • Leads all SEC freshmen in TFLs per game (0.88).
